It is with great pleasure that I say Thank You to all of those who have given of their treasure and time to COTS. We are truly grateful for your gifts.
The commitment of our donors enables us to find long-term solutions for homelessness as we continue to offer the basic needs for life – food, shelter, and clothing. We are truly dedicated to our vision of ending the cycle of homelessness, which is made possible only through the help of our donors. Your support helps bring our vision of a community that will be a source of pride for many generations to come.
Warm Wishes,
Cheryl P. Johnson

Endowment and Planned Gifts
Donors have found that a planned gift can provide an ideal opportunity to support the institution they love, at a higher level than they had thought possible.
A strong endowment provides much needed income to help close the gap between revenues and expenses and provides a lasting financial bedrock for the institution.
COTS LEGACY SOCIETY
Membership in the Legacy Society is an important way to secure the future of COTS through a life income gift, while receiving maximum tax and estate benefits that enhance your financial well being. Donors have found that a planned gift, creatively structured to provide tax advantages and life income, can provide an ideal opportunity to support the institution they love, at a higher level than they had thought possible. Your planned gift to COTS can also benefit you and your family. We are proud to honor our planned giving donors by recognizing them as a member in the COTS Legacy Society.
Please contact the Major Gifts Manager by phone at 313.831.3777 ext 285 to find out more about specific planned giving strategies.
We gratefully acknowledge the generosity and foresight of Legacy Society Members listed below:
| "Those of us who are lucky enough to have been able to save for our future, thus creating a "personal endowment", such as an IRA, need to help COTS and other organizations like it, create an organizational endowment to help those truly in need in our society during these difficult times.”
“Using a contribution from our IRAs can help create an endowment for COTS that will be available in good times and in bad times for this important social service organization."

There are multiple ways to give.. From a simple bequest to more complex arrangements, we welcome the opportunity to assist you and your advisors in planning a contribution that suits your particular needs.
Retirement Plan Asset Gifts
You can leave COTS a part or all of your IRA, 401(k) Plan, HR-10 Plan or other retirement plan by naming COTS as a partial or entire beneficiary of your plan. Retirement plan assets are more highly taxed than most other assets in a person's estate plan. When arranging the financial affairs in your estate plan, it is often wiser to have charitable gifts made payable out of your retirement plan assets. By doing this it will yield a greater net estate for your family beneficiaries.
Life Insurance
You can make COTS a beneficiary of a life insurance policy by writing on the beneficiary designation form "COTS, for its general operating expenses" and then name a set amount (e.g., $100,000) or a percentage (e.g., 50%) or the entire proceeds.
Bequests
One of the easiest ways to benefit COTS is to include a bequest provision in your will or deed of trust. If you have already made a provision in your will or trust for COTS, we hope that you will share these plans with us so we can honor and acknowledge your generous intentions.
